About me
I'm Liviu Bucel, a cybersecurity student at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK. I study how systems fail, how attacks can be detected, and how to investigate incidents using technical evidence.
My background combines IT support, web infrastructure and hands-on security work. I also build and maintain technical services through ZebraByte, with a focus on reliable hosting, DNS, TLS and practical security hardening.
Here I publish what I am building, learning and testing — not just a list of technologies.
OWASP community member
I am a member of the Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) community. Membership is not a certification or endorsement.
What I focus on
Application security. Understanding web vulnerabilities, authentication boundaries, misconfigurations and responsible remediation using tools such as Burp Suite and OWASP guidance.
Defensive investigation. Analysing network traffic, interpreting logs and following the evidence through incident response and digital forensics exercises.
Infrastructure security. Working with Linux, Windows, DNS, HTTPS/TLS, Cloudflare WAF, rate limiting and practical protection for production websites.
Learning and hands-on practice
I'm studying BSc (Hons) Cyber Security at De Montfort University (2024–2027 expected). My practical learning includes authorised security assessments, network analysis, incident-response exercises and security-focused technical labs.
I use Nmap, Wireshark, Burp Suite, Kali Linux and scripting to learn by investigating real system behaviour. Lab exercises are identified as exercises; I do not present them as client engagements or claim unearned qualifications.
Projects and technical writing
My projects include infrastructure tooling and security-focused applications. Each project page explains what the system does, the technologies involved and the practical problem it addresses. I document research and observations in the blog.
Experience and collaboration
Before specialising in cybersecurity, I worked with IT support and infrastructure in operational environments. You can see my experience and resume and the tools I actually work with.
